Miguel Hernández (1910-1942) was a Spanish poet and playwright. He was born in Orihuela, Alicante and lived most of his life in poverty. Despite his limited formal education, he became a prolific and influential poet. His works often dealt with the struggles of ordinary people and the injustices they faced. He was also a committed political activist, supporting the Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War.
After the Civil War, he was imprisoned for his political beliefs and died in prison in 1942 at the age of 31. His poetry was not widely recognized until after his death, but has since become celebrated as some of the most important works of Spanish poetry in the 20th century. Some of his most famous works include "Viento del Pueblo" (The People's Wind) and "El Rayo que no Cesa" (The Never-Ending Lightning).
